Nikky Smedley is LaaLaa

Nikky Smedley

Nikky has been creating and performing work for children, young people, and their families for over three decades.
She shares her young audience’s desire to experience the world with the whole body and all five senses working overtime.

This has led to a varied career encompassing dance; acting; singing; comedy; puppetry; poetry and production through live and recorded media - most famously through her involvement with Ragdoll Productions - playing LaaLaa in the world renowned Teletubbies and devising; writing; choreographing; directing and producing - leading to a BAFTA nomination for Boobah!

She aims to share her delight in all modes of expression and communication, always with a smile and sense of wonderment at the unending exploration of life.

In addition to her more formal educational work for children and adults, she trains and coaches grown-ups in the arts of Storytelling, Puppetry and Creating for Children, as well as offering Conference Speaking and Business Development around effective communication skills.

Nikky also heads up the How to Speak Child project and her one-woman show for grown-ups, Nikipedia - Confessions of an Ex-Teletubby, is currently touring.

Nikky's memoir of her time as a Teletubby, Over the Hills and Far Away has just been published by Sandstone Press and her informative and fun educational work, Create, Perform, Teach! - An Early Years Practitioner's Guide to Developing Your Creativity and Performance Skills is also available. You can purchase both books on Amazon, from all good bookshops or via the contact form on this website.
