#StoryPlay no.7 - Balloon Clues

Apr 19, 2014
Welcome to Storyplay - a Different Idea for Every Day

Write snippets of stories, tiny poems or teasing tantalising clues on parcel labels. Tie them to helium balloons and set them free.

There’s as much fun in creating the story of what happens when they are found, as there is in the creation of the clues.

#StoryPlay no.6 - New Music

Apr 18, 2014

Welcome to Storyplay - a Different Idea for Every Day

I have mentioned elsewhere in the blogosphere, that though my family loved and played music, I didn’t hear any classical piano until I studied ballet in my teens.

Is there one kind of music (or more?) that is never heard in your house or school? Dixieland Jazz, Flamenco Guitar, Speed Metal? Why not find some, and share the experience of listening to a new set of sounds with your child or children? How do each of you describe it?

#StoryPlay no.5 - The Secret Life of Objects

Apr 17, 2014
Welcome to Storyplay - a Different Idea for Every Day

You’ll start to look at your surroundings in a different way . . . the saucepan there - does he (or she, or it, or other?!) look forward to being used, does it hurt being heated up, or does it tickle?

Is a wellington boot really hoping it’ll get stuck in the mud every time it goes out? Is it like a little kiss to a light switch every time you switch it on?

Take a tour of lives and histories and stories around your environment.

#StoryPlay no.4 - Duvet Game

Apr 16, 2014
Welcome to Storyplay - a Different Idea for Every Day

One for a snuggly day, under the duvet - or if you’re in school, under a big cloth or pile of cloths.

You’ll need a central character - doll, teddy, dinosaur, stormtrooper, for example - and to decide on that character’s quest. Then make shapes under the duvet/cloth with your bodies, or bits of your bodies and various props to represent obstacles on that quest - with an accompanying narrative of course - hilarious!

#StoryPlay no.3 - Wonky Dance Street

Apr 15, 2014
Welcome to Storyplay - a Different Idea for Every Day

Remember ye olde game of consequences? Well a visual version of that is our starting point: Draw head, and fold, and pass on; draw upper body and arms, and fold, and pass on; draw lower body and fold, and pass on; draw legs (or alternatives!), and fold, and pass on; finally feet, and fold, and pass on. Be as ludicrous as possible.

Unfold your creatures, and discuss -
What’s his or her name?
Where do they live?
Do they have a special skill?
What’s their relationship with the other characters?
Do they have a pet?
How do they move?
What's their story?
